Abstract (in English) |
---|
European libraries, archives and museums, especially in the last decade, have produced a large number of digital facsimiles. Some have institutional digital repositories, others make digital documents available through centrally aggregated services (Europeana, Czech Digital Library, Slovakiana, etc.). The paper points to the fact that a number of digitizations of modern historical documents as well as modern documents are made available only in the form of images of pages that have not yet been transcribed into an editable form that would allow both their better general availability, as well as their understanding and subsequent translation. The author illustrates the current state of access to images of historical manuscripts and prints from some digital repositories. It explains the innovative ways to improve the accessibility and usability of digital facsimiles through automatic transcription that uses artificial intelligence in the Trankribus platform. |
