Kniha se skládá ze tří částí. První popisuje historický vývoj vojenského testamentu v Římě. Následující část popisuje obsah a rozsah privilegia vojenského testamentu. Třetí část je pak věnována jednak vojenskému testamentu v moderním právu, zejména ale tomu, jak se postupy zvolené antickými právníky u vojenského testamentu objevují v moderním dědickém právu jako takovém. Vojenský testament je totiž chápán jako výjimka ze všech zásad římského dědického práva. To, co bylo v antice výjimkou, je dnes často pravidlem.

The book consists of three parts. The first describes the historical development of military testament in Rome. The following section describes the contents and scope of the privileges of the military testament. The third part is devoted to military secondly testament to modern law, but in particular how the ancient methods chosen by the military lawyers testament appear in modern inheritance law as such. Military testament is in fact understood as an exception to all the principles of Roman law of succession. What has been the exception in the ancient world, it is nowadays often the rule.
