This article proves that peace negotiations, which took part between the Quadruple Alliance and Ukraine, stand out as a major event of the First World War's (WWI) last year, seen in the context of historical development of Central and Eastern Europe in the 20th century. Most importantly, they indicated an important step towards the confirmation of Ukrainian statehood - or even nationhood - at the international forum. From this point of view, the importance of the peace talks, in spite of the imminent destruction of an independent Ukraine by Bolsheviks and the Quadruple Alliance's loss in the war, transcended the dimension of WWI. Similarly, negotiations with independent Ukraine largely and for a long time affected the situation in Central and Eastern Europe.
