In English

Altai Uriankhai banners belonged to the most remote administrative units under the Manchu Qing period. There is a lack of local archival documents related to the history of the region, but as a result of the fact that important official cases related to the seven banners of Altai Uriankhais were sent to the Grand Council in Beijing through the Ministry of Home Affairs, the reports in the First Historical Archives of the People's Republic of China to a certain extent compensate for the lack of information. According to the archive documents, from the beginning of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, long-distance pilgrimages were organized repeatedly to visit Ikh Khüree, the seat of the Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, Wutaishan and Kumbum monasteries. Archives provide brief but important information about the pilgrimages. The groups of pilgrims coming from the far west to perform worship of Jebtsundamba Khutuktu testify to the fact that the devotion to Jebtsundamba was extended also in other areas beyond Khalkha.
