Abstract

In the original language

One of the most important artworks to emerge from the interwar Hungarian Communist movement depicted an event from national history and represented its central character as the epitome of the national hero. Gyula Derkovits’s series of woodcuts 1514 narrated the Hungarian peasant uprising led by György Dózsa (1470–1514) in the eponymous year. This article reproduces the full series with the images in the original order.
