La élite de poder guatemalteca ha mantenido sus privilegios e influencia forjando alianzas matrimoniales y afiliaciones empresariales duraderas, caracterizadas por una movilidad social restringida y prácticas rígidas de reclutamiento socio-racial. Este estudio profundiza en las redes económicas y familiares de la élite de poder contemporánea en el siglo XXI, presentando un marco analítico para estudiar los vínculos entre esta élite y el Estado guatemalteco. La investigación analiza una red multilevel de élite, que abarca un nivel de nexos corporativos que involucra a 1541 entidades offshore en Panamá y otro nivel de relaciones de parentesco establecidas a través de apellidos compartidos. La red multinivel sirve como mecanismo de cohesión de la élite en el siglo XXI, donde se observa un grado limitado de circulación de la élite y un predominio masculino persistente.

The Guatemalan power elite has maintained its privileges and influence by forging long-lasting marital and business alliances characterized by limited social mobility and inflexible socio-racial practices. This study examines the economics and networks of the contemporary power elite in the 21st century and presents an analytical framework for examining the ties between this elite group and the Guatemalan state. The research examines a multilevel elite network that includes one level of corporate ties involving 1541 offshore entities in Panama and another level of familial ties established through relationships established through shared surnames. The multilevel network serves as a mechanism for elite cohesion in the twenty-first century, where limited elite circulation and persistent male dominance are observed.
