Abstract
In the original language
The Language Centre (LC) of Masaryk University (MU) (Czech Republic) provides language teaching of English, German, Spanish, French and Russian to nine MU faculties. In connection with a new concept of language teaching at Masaryk University introduced in 2006, the Language Centre launched the process of standardization of language teaching and assessment related to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This process also entails standardization of testing university students who accomplished courses of Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) or Language for Academic Purposes (LAP) at different levels of the CEFR for above mentioned languages. This paper presents an approach the LC has decided to adopt in the process of standardization of language testing and assessment of LSP and LAP students of MU together with the pitfalls and challenges of university language testing and the extent to which the LC is capable of implementing the Council of Europe Manual for relating examinations to the CEFR in the process of standardization of language testing and assessment.
