This course is an overview of the theoretical and some practical foundations of various sound synthesis and sound technology in general, that was and is used in the practice of experimental and popular music and art events and performances. Student will be presented with some elementary history and evolution of a modern, experimental and electronic music of the second half of the twentieth century. Student should obtain some practical skills in working with hardware and software music synthesizers, MIDI instruments and various sound studio hardware and software. In the first part of the course will briefly describe the historical development of sound technology, computers and music synthesizers and their integration into music production. He or she should come to realization, that today powerfull audio technology went through a long complicated as well as magical progress of the try and errors anda heavy effort of the early technology and sound pioneers in realization of their dreams and challenges.In the next part of the course will be discussed the theoretical foundations of basic sound properties, psychoacoustics and acoustics, specific types of sound synthesis. Students are also introduced to the practical application of appropriate professional music hardware and software and will also become familiar with the general principles of programming synthesizers, computer control of synthesizers and integration of synthesizers in the apparatus of digital and analog recording studio and their use in live production and art happenings.
