Cieľ: Sexuálne správanie je neoddeliteľnou súčasťou ľudskej existencie. Vo všeobecnosti je známe, že sexuálna aktivita klesá s vekom. Veľká časť starších osôb, vrátane tých, ktorí žijú v domovoch dôchodcov, zostává napriek svojmu veku sexuálne aktívna. Cieľom práce bolo odpovedať na otázku, ako sú seniorskí obyvatelia spokojní s uspokojovaním svojich sexuálnych potrieb a akú úlohu má ošetrujúci personál. Metódy: Bola použitá kvantitatívna metóda. Prieskumnú vzorku tvorilo 100 respondentov. Všetci respondenti boli obyvateľmi domova dôchodcov. Výsledky: Za najdôležitejšiu oblasť intímneho života považujú respondenti (40%) pocit spolupatričnosti a blízkosť inej osoby; 43% je spokojným so svojim intímnym životom; 49 % opýtaných si myslí, že intímny život nie je obmedzený vekom; 51% respondentov, by sa nikdy nikomu nezverilo s intímnymi problémami; 26% by uvítalo, aby sa zdravotnícky personál aktívne zaujímal o intímny život svojich klientov. Záver: Sexuálne potreby človeka sa v priebehu života vyvíjajú a menia. Potreba intenzívneho prežívania fyzického potešenia sa mení na potrebu spolupatričnosti a blízkosti s milovanou osobou. Ošetrujúci personál by mal mať aktívnejšiu úlohu v oblasti zisťovania sexuálnych potrieb klientov.

Objective: Sexual behavior is an integral part of human existence. It is generally known that, sexual activity declines with age. A significant proportion of elderly persons, including those in nursing homes, remain sexually active. The aim of the work was to answer the question ‘how do senior residents satisfy with their sexual needs?’ Methods: The quantitative method has been used. The survey sample was composed of 100 respondents. All of them were clients of nursing home for elderly. Results: The most important area of intimate life of respondents (40%) is a sense of belonging and the closeness with another person; 43% are satisfied with their intimate life; 49% of the respondents thing that intimate life is not limited by age; 51% of respondents would never open up to anyone with own intimate problems; 26% would welcome actively interesting of healthcare professionals in intimate lives of their clients. Conclusion: The sexual needs of human are evolving and changing during live. The need of intensive sexual pleasure is changing as a need of belonging and the closeness with another person. The caring staff should have a more active role in an are of sexual needs of their clients.
