N2 - Number of old maps and plans are growing every day. These maps and plans are converted into digital form and geographical coordinates are assigned to them. It creates huge database waiting for people who start working with its content. So far, interpretation of old maps was domain of experts in relatively small teams. Today, we can involve a public into old maps interpretations, due to possibilities as Web 2.0 and so on. Apart from others, this paper brings reasons why is good to study old maps and why can be useful to use public for it.
