The book "The Redern Family" is based on the dissertation "The Rederns and Their World." The aim was to provide a complete, though obviously not quite detailed (vzčerpávající), explanation of the role of the noble family of Barons of Redern in Bohemia between 1558 and 1621. The purpose of the book is to explain their social, political, cultural, religious and economic correlations with the closest region as well as with events in the Kingdom of Bohemia in the Early Modern Times in a way they have never been processed before. The text is based on the study of unpublished sources stored in the archives in the Czech Republic and abroad (Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary). The author also drew on published private and official period sources (correspondence, diaries, memoirs, records of official and legal nature). He also took advantage of regional historical production and Czech and foreign professional literature. The text however does not thematically proceed solely from preserved 16th and 17th centuries sources relating directly to the designated family. It also takes interest in the subsequent evaluation of the Rederns in the works of German national historians and historiographers in North Bohemia until 1945. It takes into account the results of sectional investigations in the region in the second half of the 20th century. The methodology part of the text also presents other lines of research. It informs about problems that must be contended with in research as well as the interpretation of regional history by experts and laymen.
