Text se zabývá variantností vlastních jmen. Postihuje jak hloubkovou rovinu (motivy) vedoucí ke vzniku variant (diachronní, substituční, sociální, nářeční, kodifikační, expresivní, ideologická, jazykověekonomická, okazionální), tak jejich povrchovou realizaci (varianta zvuková, grafická, hlásková, morfologická, slovotvorná, lexikálně-sémantická, syntagmatická).

The chapter focuses on variability of proper names. The author distinguishes a deep structure as a source of variability, and a surface structure which reflects in a form of variant names. According to the author, there are nine deep-structure motives that can be combined with six surface-structure variants.
